The end of another year
Another year goes by, lots happened in this year and for me the last few months have been so busy that I never got around to updating my blog. Thought I’d at least put in a quick word before the year ends.
October – I travelled almost for a whole month, I had a quick trip to the US first and it was my first after 911 and I was worried after hearing all the stories on the extra security. Surprisingly, walking through immigration and customs turned out to be a breeze. So much so that the officer questioning me even forgot to take my fingerprint and retina scan. When he told me I could go, I sheepishly asked, “so what no fingers??” He looked up and even more sheepishly answered “Ooops! I forgot!”
The rest of the US trip was mixed bag, lots of work but in the end I did manage to meet with some old friends and more importantly with family. This was my first long trip (more than a few hours last time) to the East Coast, I was in New Jersey which is apparently called a Bedroom County (several people live in NJ and work in NYC) but I called it Patel Nagar!
November – I came back from the US to continue travelling, I had a small assignment which took me to Mumbai and then to Bangalore. Mumbai I managed to make a quick trip to Britania again and this time had a long chat with Mr. Kohinoor it was a most interesting chat and I think I will post separately about it. After Mumbai I went to Bangalore, I was a week early for foss.in but since I was part of the “managers” team I decided to stay on and actually get some work done. foss.in was a tremendous event, for an event that size when nothing goes wrong its scary. I think the maximum goof-up was missing speakers at the airport, a few minor issues on accommodation and the ever so slightest bit of delays on some of the talks. Other than that it was smooth!
December – It just came and went, not sure what all happened. I guess there was a bunch of things to catch up with so that just kept me busy. Last week I was invited to take part in NDTV Profit’s Gadget Guru program and that turned out to be great fun. There were tons of gadgets and this year they had a viewer vote for the gadget of the year. The PS3 won hands down, I think it will be a great console but only when the content starts hitting the shelves.
Last week we also had two house guests, my nephew Shiv and his new pet dog Zeta. It was quite an experience having an untrained pup in the house for 4 days, from a quieter moment this is what Zeta was like…
The last 2 days I got quite excited about trying to do something useful with Kabir’s PS2, I converted it into a media player, I can now happily stream, movies (divx) and mp3 from my desktop onto the TV and the bigger music system that I have connected with it. All I need now is a good HDTV and I will have the perfect home theatre system. A good geeky way to end the year!
A very happy new year to all and best wishes for two-007. Promises to be a bond of a year!
Cheers…Kishore
The new year will surely bring a new aura in your life, Best of luck sir.
Hi Kishore,
I am Ashutosh from Linux Bangalore. Last night I saw someone looking like you at NDTV Profit’s Gadget Guru, and lo! it was you. It was great seeing you there, and your comments ” Microsoft make better harware than software” and “My Linux laptop works better than this” are greatly appreciated
Have you considered being a permanent host of that show?
Cheers
Ash
Hi! Ash,
Thanks for your comments. I do sometimes manage a dig at the big M$ every now and then and still get away with it!
As for being host of the show, I don’t think NDTV would be able to handle that! But thanks anyways.
Cheers…Kishore

Hi! Guru,
I do intend to buy an ebook reader sometime soon. I am waiting to see if a new version of Amazon’s Kindle or the Sony ebook reader will have the features I want. The ebook reader i just that an ebook reader and not does not double up as a PC.
