Had a bad first experience with a netbook (Acer Aspire One 150 something), before one got down to create a backup CD - installed skype, and ran IE simultaneously. It crashed the machine so bad that it never booted back again. Even the dedicated restore to factory setting went on a hang forever.

Rahul, the good thing with the linux distos of today is that if you only want to try, you can use a live distro from CD or from USB. Try out http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ easy enough instructions to get you going.

Cheers...Kishore

Nilesh, one must always approach this step-by-step the first was to get Jyoti to use Linux, next will be to knock off the Windows partition. In any case, she has not booted into Windows even once and that in itself is quite an achievement. Cheers...Kishore

Was dual-boot really necessary? Running XP in Virtualbox is a much nicer option.

Krishnan, thanks but I don't see the need to roll a new distro when there are already so many out there. Easy Peasy is rather well packaged and has many extras already bundled in. Including, skype, Picasa, Chese webcam booth and many more. Completely set for work and play.

Cheers...Kishore
