FreeDel06 finally happened. I was so knocked out at the end of it that I never got a chance to write anything about it. But I guess some is certainly due. Freedel is the annual event of ILUG-Delhi. Its an action packed fun-filled event. This year was no exception. We had work, we had some great talks, some tremendously popular workshops and to top it of endless amounts of fun! Sometimes I worry that they may tax our fun!

The first day of the event (16th September 2006) there was the usual morning rush to get things into place and get the event off the ground. A few minor hitches and we were successfully on our way. Of course, we did have to reschedule our entire talk table once and get the new schedules out to the delegates and participants but it finally all worked in the end. The evening of the first day turned out more hectic than the event itself. After pondering for hours where to go for a quiet drink and dinner for 35 people we finally headed to Raju’s place. The evening was full of beer, kababs, music and fun. We tried to not make our volunteers work any more for the evening but they are such a good bunch of guys that are always ready to help out.

Day 2 – Started a little late for some of us who were not able to wake up on time but things were smooth and talks and workshops happened at their own pace. We had a very exciting trivia quiz as the first session after lunch where tons of T-shirts were given away by one of the sponsors. It was chaotic trying to figure out in a hall full of geeks which one gave the right answer first! Towards the end of the evening, we had all basically decided that we would celebrate later and that we were too tired to do anything after all the work. However, that was not to be as our out-of-town visitors all wanted a repeat of the previous night. We finally settled for a quietish dinner at Golden Dragon though I don’t think the restaurant staff thought we were quiet!

In the end all went well, the speakers were happy, the delegates and participants were happy the volunteers and organisers were just TIRED! But I did hear rumours of an event in February 2007. FreeDel coming soon to a venue near you.
