While gathering photos for my POD site, I decided to do a series on kids. Over the years, I have managed to get some good photos and this should be a collection of those.

Many of the photos are totally candid and of kids I come across while travelling, the rest are kids from the family and friends connection. Don’t be surprised to find a kid you may know.

I certainly enjoyed taking some of the photos, I hope you enjoy seeing them.

During the summer break we do try and get out of Delhi for a while and as soon as Kabir got back from his Bangalore vacation we planned a trip into the hills. Our trusted friend and hardware provider Amit, has a little shop in Manali that he wanted to visit and we decided that we would drive up along with him and his family.

The biggest problem with driving out is having to wake up at an unearthly hour to start the journey in order to beat the traffic and have a smooth drive. Despite protests from everyone, we did manage to leave the house by 0530 hrs and got out of Delhi well on time.

Jyoti was the car DJ and kept the music running through the entire drive. A very good mix of it ensured I did not fall asleep. With the various minor stoppages, we made pretty good time and reached just outside Kullu within 12 hours. The drive was pleasant, we had rain in some places in the plains and as we hit the hills it cleared up and the weather was great. A little warm but fresh mountain air instead of diesel.

Well, the trip report could go and on, so I won’t because I am sure Jyoti will be writing one out soon enough. I just wanted to share some of the photos that I took during the trip. I got some good views and some great people shots.

For some strange reason, the drive back was not that great. Maybe it was the fact that we would have to get back to work as well. But the Delhi border was blocked solid and it took over two hours to get in. The road after Karnal was also just plain SLOW. Final drive time was over 18 hrs.

Trip was good and we all enjoyed it.

Cheers…Kishore

While driving around, I often come across some really funny signs. Unfortunately, its not always easy to capture them. However, I did manage a few and that’s what this post is about. I am currently putting up just two photos, but will add more soon. I had put only one of them earlier, and got several calls saying if this is supposed to be a collection, then where are the others?

The first sign, is put up by the Delhi Metro folks on the road to Gurgaon, where there is lots of construction activity and the road is constricted.

The second, is hilarious. Put up by HUDA on a new road, promising us a “batter” future!

There are a few more images in the gallery and hopefully there will be some updates.

While on the issue of updates, I am not sure how or why but Kabir seems to be convinced that he should start a photoblog of his own. Here’s his first post. Not sure why he chose this shot of the airport as his first post specially since he has some really nice images from Goa.

Looking forward to those.

Food was done in advance and the beer was chilled! A good time was had by one and all. Here are a few photos:

if you’d like to! I just opened up comments on my Photo Gallery but only in the nature section. Would love to hear what you think of the photos, good, bad and ugly all comments are accepted. Comments are not moderated so I will only delete ones with profanity!

Been working on some different stuff the last two weeks, one of them is a firewall distro called pfSense which is FreeBSD based and quite neat. Got one running at a friends place, but am having a few issues with the next two that I need to get out of the way. Hopefully, will get resolved in a day or two.

The other exciting bit of work was trixbox, I need to setup a PABX for a client and real soon now. Biggest issue has been getting the trixbox distro. Apparently, there was an issue and they held it back for a while, it just happened to be the day I wanted to download it. I finally managed only to discover that the media I burnt it on had some problem and the mediacheck failed!

Wonder if I’ll manage to fix it some time soon.

Still updating photos every now and then.

Cheers…Kishore
–
PS: I did manage to upgrade my laptop to 2 GB RAM!

Phew! it was tough, three days of intense talks and a very vibrant conclave. But it was fun. The freed.in organisers realised early enough that none of them would have time to write blogs or take photos, they just about managed to attend some talks and some parts of the conclave in between the organising, so very cleverly some speakers from the community were volunteered. Sankarshan became the official blogger for the event and Jace became the official photographer. Photos started appearing on flickr with the tags freedin and freedin2008, so if you search you’ll find a bunch. Now I am in recovery mode, hoping to stay away still the next freed.in which might be held in Kolkata in September if we manage to swing it, else in Delhi again next year in February. Of course, in between that I will have FOSS.IN to contend with.

While I don’t post-process my photos too much just a little cropping and brightening sometimes, the Airoli ones will come up soon now. Here’s another boat shot after the tide came in.

So what else is new, besides being lazy and procrastinating and also claiming that I have writers block, I have actually been busy! Some quick things before they get skipped over all together:

I finally sat down and wrote an article for The Mint. Basically, a simple article on how best to use your smart phone. The article can be seen on the Mint site here. It didn’t get too much user feedback or comments and the one comment that did come in was quite funny!

Apart from work, the other stuff thats been keeping me busy is of course freed.in/2008. We are less than a week away and things are looking good. It is going to be a much smaller event but IMHO it will be very focussed and fruitful. Some of the pre-event discussions have been tremendous. Do check the site out, the action is about to start.

I did also travel though for a short trip to Mumbai and apart from the work managed a quick photo outing with old friend Krishnan. We went to Airoli Bridge Project and waited all morning for the tide to come in but that did not happen. However, not disheartened, we sat on the banks and shot away. I managed to get some good shots and while I am still sifting through them, here’s a nice view of the boats on a dry dock!

In the meantime, if you are anywhere near Delhi between the 22nd-24th of February, do drop in at freed.in/2008!

Cheers…Kishore
